New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday shared a video of BJP leader B Gopalakrishnan from Kerala while discussing the alleged 'vote chori' in Haryana.

Rahul showed a clip featuring BJP’s Kerala vice-president, who, during an earlier press conference, claimed that nearly 25 lakh votes were stolen in Haryana.

The video, recorded on August 22, shows Gopalakrishnan addressing the media and asserting that thousands of people, including BJP members, are registered as voters in both Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. He alleged that individuals are brought from outside and made to vote in constituencies the party aims to win.

“We will vote extensively to win. We will bring people from Jammu and Kashmir, have them stay for a year, and vote in the constituencies we intend to win. There is no need for doubt,” Gopalakrishnan is heard saying in the video.

The remarks have resurfaced amid allegations that BJP MP Suresh Gopi’s victory in Thrissur was aided by fake votes, with claims that outsiders were added to the voter rolls under false addresses.

The Congress leader described the alleged voter fraud in Haryana as a fundamental attack on India's democracy.

He said it undermines the visions of Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, and Subhas Chandra Bose, claiming that the country's democratic ideals are being threatened.

"...This is a fundamental attack on the democratic soul of India. This is an attack on Mahatma Gandhi, Ambedkar ji, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Subhas Chandra Bose by the RSS...Gandhi ji was murdered, his vision and his idea is being murdered. That's what's going on," he said.

Gandhi said that ensuring the integrity of the voter list is the responsibility of the Election Commission, not political parties.

Responding to questions about why no objections were raised during Bihar's SIR process, he said parties cannot fix flawed voter lists without access to the complete database, which the EC does not provide.

"Voter list integrity is not the responsibility of the political party. It is not my problem if the voter list is wrong. It is the EC who has to guarantee voter list integrity...What the EC does is it tries to put the onus on the parties who solve the problems. We cannot solve the problems. If you want us to solve the problem, give us the entire database and we will solve it...But they don't do it," he said.
