Kochi: In a setback for Rahul Easwar, the Kerala High Court declined to grant him anticipatory bail in connection with a defamation complaint filed by actress Honey Rose. The court did not stay Easwar's arrest in the case. Honey Rose filed a complaint alleging that Easwar had defamed her through social media and during television debates. Another complaint against Easwar was filed by Salim, a resident of Thrissur.
Rahul Easwar argued in court that he had only exercised his right to freedom of expression. He claimed Honey Rose was not beyond criticism, which justified his comments. These arguments were presented during the hearing of his anticipatory bail plea on Monday.
However, the High Court refused to grant him anticipatory bail at this stage and postponed the case to January 27. The court has also sought a report from the police regarding the matter before making a decision on the bail application.
Meanwhile, no formal case has been registered against Rahul Easwar based on Honey Rose's complaint. Honey Rose had submitted her complaint to the Ernakulam Central Police, who have stated that they are currently examining the details of the allegations.
