Kalpetta: Describing author R Rajasree as a true phenomenon in contemporary literature, Mathrubhumi Managing Editor P V Chandran praised her distinct narrative voice at the Padmaprabha Literary Award presentation ceremony.

Speaking at the function where Rajasree was conferred with the honour, Chandran noted that the author carved out her own unique literary space by breaking away from traditional writing styles. “She secured a prominent position in the literary world with her very first novel. Having already won numerous accolades, I extend my best wishes for many more honors to come her way,” he said.

Highlighting the history of the award, Chandran paid tribute to the late M P Veerendra Kumar, who was a prominent figure in Malayalam literature and politics through his writing, reading and public addresses. He noted that the Padmaprabha Award stands as a fitting memorial instituted by Veerendra Kumar in honor of his beloved father, an avid bibliophile.

“Beyond honouring the memory of Padmaprabha Gowder, this event performs the noble task of recognising our language, literature and writers. The Padmaprabha Award has evolved into a highly esteemed recognition closely watched by Kerala's literary fraternity,” Chandran added.

Expressing personal warmth, Chandran shared that Veerendra Kumar had always insisted on his presence at events associated with his family. He expressed satisfaction that M V Shreyams Kumar is following in his late father's footsteps, and concluded by extending his heartiest congratulations to awardee R Rajasree.
