Thiruvananthapuram: In order to tighten the noose on illegal liquor sales, QR codes will be made mandatory on liquor bottles alongside holograms. The initiative undertaken by the government-owned Travancore Sugars and Chemicals will be soon implemented across the state. The model has been adopted from the state of Telangana.
At the distilleries, with the help of machines, special holograms encompassing QR codes will be imprinted on liquor bottles and cases. Each liquor bottle will have a distinct QR code. If scanned using a mobile phone, details, including manufacturing date, information on the distillery and date of arrival of the bottles at godowns and the respective liquor shops, will be provided.
