Kottayam: A conflict erupted between DYFI and Youth Congress workers in Manarcadu following the announcement of Puthuppally bypoll results.
The incident allegedly involved the pelting of stones at the house of a local committee member while a Congress demonstration was passing by. The window of a nearby shop was also damaged.
Youth Congress workers have reported that DYFI workers were responsible for throwing the stones. In the altercation, Youth Congress leader Abin Varkey sustained injuries, claimed the organisation.
CPM leader Jaick C Thomas arrived at the location. He said that the SFI area secretary was undergoing treatment for injuries from the attack.
Abin Varkey alleged that DYFI workers assaulted a voter who announced he would not vote for LDF.
The injured individuals have been transported to the hospital, and a police team led by Kottayam SP K Karthik is present at the scene.
