Puthuppally: MLA-designate Chandy Oommen has started his ‘padayatra’ to personally thank the constituents following the resounding victory in the byelection. The padayatra set off at 10 am from Vakathanam panchayat.

Chandy Oommen said that the confidence instilled by the Bharat Jodo Yatra provided the impetus for the Puthuppally padayatra. When inquired about his first course of action as the MLA of Puthuppally, he responded, "The super specialty hospital in Puthupally was a UDF initiative. It requires government support to complete it. We will endeavour to facilitate that," he said.

Even though his father Oommen Chandy has served as MLA for 53 years in Puthupally, there hasn't been a designated office for him. When asked if he plans to establish an office, he commented, "We can decide when the time is right."

Chandy Oommen defeated LDF’s Jaick C Thomas for 37,719 votes in the bypoll in Puthuppally Assembly constituency. The election was necessitated by the death of his father and former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy.

Chandy Oommen will sworn in as MLA on Monday in the Assembly.
