Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala BJP president and Nemom MLA Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated on Monday that elected representatives cannot distance themselves from technology by claiming a lack of technical knowledge. He described such a stance as "irresponsible" rather than an expression of humility, emphasising that legislators have a duty to adapt to modern governance.

Feigning ignorance is 'irresponsibility'

Following an orientation programme on e-Legislature conducted in the Kerala Legislative Assembly, Chandrasekhar took to social media to share his views on the critical role of technology in public service.

He firmly rejected the notion that public figures stepping away from digital tools because they "do not understand them" is acceptable.

"I cannot view the attitude of public representatives who step aside saying they do not understand technology as humility. Rather, it is irresponsibility. Making an effort to learn and understand new developments is the duty of a legislator," Chandrasekhar said.

The era of intelligent governance

The Nemom legislator noted that governance systems have rapidly transitioned from mere digitisation to full digitalisation, and have now officially entered the era of intelligent governance.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics are completely transforming how policies are made, how public services are delivered, and how governments operate.

Chandrasekhar asserted that understanding and effectively utilising these tools is no longer a matter of personal choice or preference for elected representatives, but a direct responsibility towards the citizens they serve.

He concluded by emphasising that building a highly developed, progressive Kerala is entirely dependent on fostering a technology-driven, transparent and people-centric governance ecosystem.
