
Thiruvananthapuram: CPI (M) leader and Democratic Women's Association secretary P. Sathidevi is likely to be appointed as the new chairperson of the Kerala State women's Commission, say reports. There are indications that a decision is said to have been taken in the CPI (M) state secretariat regarding this. The official announcement will be made soon.
The post of Women's Commission chairperson fell vacant following the resignation of M.C Josephine after a row over her insensitive remarks. Also, the post was vacant for more than a month. It is learned that the state secretariat of the CPI (M) has reached an agreement to appoint Sathidevi as the new chairperson.
The party has unofficially informed Sathidevi that the party is considering her for the post of Women's Commission chairperson. According to the rule, the new chairperson's name should be announced only after completing the legal procedures and getting the final consent from the governor.
