Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister and actor Suresh Gopi on Saturday visited the protest site of ASHA workers in Kerala, stating that their demands should not be ignored. He assured that their concerns would be conveyed to the union government.
Gopi emphasised that no political cooperative system should be viewed with bias. "Several political systems have caused distress to the people, and all such issues must be addressed," he said. He added that if ASHA workers were facing insecurity, he would bring the matter to the attention of the Prime Minister and the Union Health Minister.
Review of scheme guidelines possible
Addressing the workers, Gopi remarked that if the ASHA scheme was initiated by the union government, it would have had specific guidelines. "These guidelines can be reviewed upon request to the Prime Minister. However, decisions will be taken by the Prime Minister and his Cabinet," he noted.
Gopi clarified that his visit was not a declaration of protest. "I am not part of the agitation. I came here to listen to the protesting workers and will ensure their concerns reach the appropriate authorities," he said.
The minister also warned that if the government takes action to dismiss the protesting ASHA workers, union government funds may be withheld.
