Balussery (Kozhikode): The preliminary notification for land acquisition in Kinalur, for the proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) project has been issued. The notification was released by Tinku Biswal, revenue principal secretary, under Section 11(1) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act of 2013.

The acquisition will involve 40.6802 hectares of land, including the areas held by Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) in Kinalur and Kanthalad villages of Thamarassery taluk. It will also include 193 families, a temple, a mosque, and a family health centre. As per the social impact study report, which is part of the notification, all 197 landowners have expressed their willingness to surrender their land for the project. The report was readied by Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Iritty, Kannur.

In April last year, the Union Ministry of Health told K Muraleedharan, MP, that it had given in-principle approval to set up AIIMS in Kerala. The file was forwarded to the finance ministry. Kerala expected an announcement in the union budget 2023-24. However, it did not happen.
