Kasaragod: The crime branch conducted a search in a field at Paravanadukkam here for the body of Eravipuram native Pramila with the help of cadaver dogs. Pramila’s husband had given a statement that he had killed and thrown her body into a river.

There was a witness statement that the accused, Seljo, was seen in an abandoned field in Paravanadukkam a week after Pramila went missing. Based on this, two cadaver dogs, Maya and Murphy, were brought in for a search from Ernakulam.

The dog squad reached Kasaragod on Tuesday night and began the inspection on Wednesday morning. The probe will continue on Thursday as well.

Pramila went missing on September 19, 2019. Seljo was arrested on October 10. He claimed that after killing his wife, he dumped her body into the river near the southern bridge. The investigation team searched the river for two months but to no avail. Seljo is currently out on bail.

Cadaver dogs are trained to sniff out human remains underground. It takes years of training and real human remains like blood and bones are used. These dogs are also used to find people buried under debris in case of landslides. They are guided by the smell of corpses buried deep in the soil and water.
