Thrissur: The Thrissur Pooram fireworks, which was delayed by almost four hours following a difference of opinion between Devaswom officials and cops, was finally conducted around 7 AM on Saturday. The development comes after officials including Minister K Rajan and the Thrissur district collector V R Krishna Teja held discussions with the Devaswom officials.
LDF candidate V S Sunil Kumar told Mathrubhumi News that, “The unwanted interference of the Police has led to the delay in Pooram festivities.”
The fireworks by the Parmekkavu faction was held first followed by the Thiruvambady faction.
Earlier, the Thiruvambady Devaswom had halted the much revered ‘Thrissur Pooram’ festivities following an altercation with the police last night. The lights in the Pooram ground bustling with activities were switched off as a mark of protest.
As per the reports, problems began when the cops started controlling the movement of the people attending the festival hours prior to much anticipated Pooram fireworks. This gave way to an argument between the organisers and the cops, eventually forcing the former to call off the proceedings in the middle of the night.
Following this, the Panchavadyam (traditional percussionists) team and the Pooram lovers had left the place. The elephants were stationed at the rest houses as well. Meanwhile, the members of the Thiruvambady Devaswom accused the Police of trying to disrupt the iconic Thrissur Pooram as a whole.
Thrissur LS Poll candidate Suresh Gopi had also arrived at the Devaswom office.
