Kochi/Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala police on Monday raided the offices of online media ‘Marunadan Malayali’ in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. The raids were carried out at the channel's regional offices in Marottichodu and Pattom in connection with the case against its proprietor-cum-editor Shajan Skariah.
Mobile phones, laptops, memory cards, cameras and other gadgets were seized in the raid. The police also recorded statements of the employees and carried out inspections at the houses of employees in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kannur.
“The raids were carried out to collect evidence and trace Shajan Skaria, who has been on the run,” said Kochi Central ACP C Jayakumar.
The police action comes in connection with the case over a complaint lodged by MLA Sreenijin against Skaria challeging the broadcast of derogatory news.
The Kochi City Police had also issued a lookout circular declaring Skariah as a fugitive the other day. On June 26, the Kerala High Court had denied anticipatory bail to Skariah and reserved for orders the appeal filed by the editor.
