Pattambi: In order to curb the rising incidents of ATM-related fraud in Kerala, the state police have taken proactive measures by issuing cautionary advisories to educate the public on the secure usage of ATM cards.

Besides withdrawing money from ATM centres, debit/credit cards now become quite popular for online transactions. As the number of ATM transactions has increased, so has the number of frauds.

The police warn the public about frauds like card cloning, wherein the fraudster makes a digital copy of the card information using a concealed or disguised electronic scanner, stealing ATM PINs and OTPs.

To avoid being a victim of such traps, the police department advises ATM customers not to dispose printouts of cash withdrawals carelessly, write down PINs or share them with anybody. Furthermore, make sure to monitor the transaction limit on your account and disable unnecessary e-commerce and foreign transaction limits if not required.

Ensure that you don't share your ATM card with others. In case you lose the card, immediately notify the bank or use SMS/App to block the card. You can contact 14440 in case of complaints about debit card fraud. Dial 1930 to contact the police or use 9497980900 to share information.
