Kozhikode: Protests continue at the National Institute of Technology (NIT- Calicut) seeking stringent action against a professor of the institute for her Facebook comment "expressing pride" in Nathuram Godse for assassinating Mahatma Gandhi and thus "saving India".

Following the protests from ABVP last day, DYFI activists observed a protest march to the campus on Wednesday. However, the protest turned violent after the Police fired water cannons at the DYFI workers. Tensions broke out as the protestors tried to jump over the barricades placed by the cops outside the campus gate.

Shaija, a senior faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT on January 30, posted "Proud of Godse for saving India".

She had commented on a post by a lawyer, Krishna Raj, who posted Godse's photograph saying Hindu Mahasabha activist Nathuram Vinayak Godse, a hero of many in India.

Meanwhile, DYFI state president V Vaseef stated that his organisation “will continue to protest until substantial action is taken against the professor.” He added that DYFI won't allow an agent of the Sangh Parivar to hold office at the institute.
