Thiruvananthapuram: During a discussion on the Silverline project in the state assembly, MLA PC Vishunadh strongly criticized the state government and police for brutally suppressing the voices of those protesting against the project.

He pointed out that protests are going on across the state against the SilverLine project. He alleged that the project could destroy the environment and economy of Kerala.

After moving an adjournment motion against the project in the assembly, he took a dig at the government and police.

Vishnunadh said that the government and the police have been dealing with the protest in an extremely undemocratic and brutal manner.

He said the government and the police had degenerated to the point where they would not hesitate to carry out any vicious attack to continue their stone laying and land acquisition procedures. The police are acting like goons without any hesitation, he added.

"The police are hurting the people in front of their children when they oppose stone-laying procedures. The father and mother are being dragged away in the presence of their children," he said.

He alleged that the state government is trying to save their face from failures they have encountered.

"K-Rail is a project aimed at covering those failures and aiding the elites in the state. The same group of people have protested against the Mumbai-Ahamadabad railway project. This shows the double standard of the government," he added.

He also asked the government to clarify the project to the people.

"The project could destroy the environment. The government's motive behind the project is not clear yet. The police who are supposed to safeguard the life of people are supporting the project which will pose threat to Kerala," he added.
