Thiruvananthapuram: The government has decided to approach Governor Arif Mohammed Khan to repeal the Kerala Police Act amendment ordinance.

The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting on Tuesday. A file in this regard will be sent to the Governor today or tomorrow.

The government has three options on how to repeal the amendment ordinance. The ordinance is valid only for 42 days from the start of the Assembly session. If the bill to enact the law is not introduced within these 42 days, the ordinance will automatically be cancelled. This is the first option.

The second option is to introduce a motion in the Assembly to withdraw the ordinance. However, both these options will not work as the Assembly is not in session and that the next session will be in January and February.

The only remaining option is to approach the Governor urging him to sign an order cancelling the ordinance. Hence, the cabinet decided to approach the Governor.
