Thrissur: A man was killed in a wild gaur attack in Valparai on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Arun, a native of Valparai.
The gaur, roaming near the tea plantations, attacked Arun at around 8 a.m. Even though he was rushed to the Valparai government hospital, he succumbed to the injuries.
Last day, a wild elephant attacked an ambulance carrying a patient with a spinal injury in Anaimalai. There have been numerous human-wildlife conflicts in the area, with the most recent incident being just one of many. Wild elephant attacks have resulted in the destruction of several crops and vegetable patches in nearby areas.
Meanwhile, complaints have been received against locals misbehaving with watchmen appointed to keep the elephants away from plantations. Funds have been allocated for solar fencing along the river to prevent wild animals from entering the residential area, but the construction work is dragging on endlessly.
