Thiruvananthapuram: The first session of the 15th Assembly began on Monday with the newly elected MLAs taking the oath before the pro tem speaker.
The legislators took oath in the floor of the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Monday in different languages. While a few MLAs took oath in the name of God, others stuck to the solemn oath.
Manjeshwaram MLA A K M Ashraf took oath in Kannada. Muvattupuzha MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan took oath in English.
The order of taking the oath of the legislators was based on the alphabetical and hence P. Abdul Hameed, Indian Union Muslim League legislator, was the first to take the oath. K Babu and A Vincent have informed that they will not be able to attend the swear-in ceremony due to quarantine.
There are 53 first time legislators, an all-time high in the recent history of the legislature. There are 10 women legislators with K.K. Rema of the RMP, the lone lady in the Opposition benches.
