Malappuram: In a freak accident, a KSRTC SWIFT bus and a pickup van collided with each other, killing its driver and injuring 10 bus passengers on Edappal flyover in the early hours of Thursday. Although the driver of the pickup van, who had been trapped inside the vehicle, was extracted from the vehicle after hours-long efforts, succumbed to his injuries.

The accident took place at around 4.30 am. The pickup van was completely destroyed in the collision. The driver, identified as Rajendran of Palakkad, was extracted from the van jointly by the fire force and local people with the help of a crane after two hours of rigorous efforts. However, his life could not be saved.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses stated that the KSRTC bus was overspeeding at the time of the accident. Incidentally, accidents are occurring frequently on the Edappal Flyover.
