New Delhi: Joe Joseph, a petitioner in the Mullperiyar dam case has appealed to the Supreme Court to issue orders to carry out the safety inspections of Mullaperiyar dam soon. He raised the request in the new affidavit submitted before the SC. He also demanded a detailed probe on the safety of the dam with the help of major professional institutions.
It has been 10 years since a comprehensive study on the safety of the dam has been executed. The safety auditing of the dam has to be conducted every year and the report shall be submitted to the SC, asserted in the affidavit.
The petitioner alleged that the supervisory committee has not grasped the gist of the constitution bench's judgement. In the affidavit, he also requested to stimulate the functioning of the supervisory committee office by including some technical experts and engineers.
The new affidavit has been filed when the Court is about to consider the Mullaperiyar case on Monday. Senior advocate S Gopakumaran Nair, advocates TG Narayan Nair and Suraj T Elanjikkal will appear for Joe Joseph.
