High-level meeting in Perumbavoor addresses rising HIV or AIDS concerns among migrant workers. Health Department intensifies prevention and awareness programs.

Perumbavoor: A high-level review meeting was held in Perumbavoor following reports of rising HIV or AIDS cases among migrant workers, under the leadership of State AIDS Control Society Project Director Dr Piyush M Namboothiripad
Officials from key departments, including Health, Women and Child Welfare, Labour and Law, attended the meeting to assess the situation and strengthen preventive measures.
The Project Director said there is no significant increase in the number of patients, but the Health Department is intensifying efforts to prevent new infections. Awareness programmes are currently being conducted among migrant workers, and officials were instructed to remain vigilant.
State AIDS Control Society Joint Director Reshmi Madhavan, Deputy Director Bala Manju and Assistant Director Jijo also participated in the meeting.
It was decided to ensure maximum participation of migrant workers in the mega medical camp,' Arogya Utsavam', scheduled to be held in Perumbavoor on February 22. The camp will focus on comprehensive health care, including HIV awareness, screening and medical check-ups.
The initiative will be supported by the Health Department, Local Self-Government Department and other agencies, with cooperation from employers, non-governmental organisations and labour groups.
