Kottayam: BJP leader and former MLA PC George, who was recently remanded in judicial custody over allegations of hate speech, has been admitted to the ICU of Kottayam Medical College.
George was admitted after an abnormality was detected in his ECG during a routine medical examination conducted before his transfer to Pala Sub-Jail.
Earlier today, the Erattupetta court rejected George's bail plea and ordered his remand until March 10. The court had initially granted George police custody until 6 pm, while the prosecution had sought a two-day custody period. However, the court only approved a four-hour custody and directed that George be presented before the magistrate again once this period concluded.
Following the hearing and arguments from both sides, George's lawyer argued that he did not incite religious hatred and that custodial interrogation was unnecessary. However, the prosecution submitted details of George's prior legal cases, citing violations of bail conditions and emphasising the need for further questioning regarding his hate speech.
PC George had surrendered to authorities after the Kerala High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea. The case stems from George's alleged delivery of hate speech during a TV discussion that targeted a minority community.
