Pathanamthitta: On Thiruvanonam day, the Ammathottil here had a new little guest. A baby boy was found at 6.25 am on Sunday in the Ammathottil near the general hospital. The baby was later named as ‘Sitar’ by Health Minister Veena George.

The ten-day-old baby with a weight of 2.835 kg was shifted to the General Hospital.

This is the 20th baby to be received after Ammathottil was set up in Pathanamthitta in 2009. This is the first time that a baby has been received for the protection of the government on Thiruvonam Day after the Ammathottil was installed in various districts.

Meanwhile, general secretary of the State Child Welfare Committee G L Arun Gopi informed that if relatives want to claim the custody of the baby then they should immediately contact the authorities as the adoption measures of the perfectly healthy baby have to be initiated without much delay.

The baby is currently in Pathanamthitta General Hospital. The next day, the baby will be shifted to Omallur Child Care Centre.

Within a month, the Child Welfare Committee received three children through Ammathottil in Kasaragod, Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta districts.

Ammathottil functions under the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare. It is instituted as a means of providing better life conditions for the destitute, abandoned and relinquished children.
