Kochi: Parvathy Maya Shaji, CEO of Amster Overseas Private Limited, who was arrested in connection with an alleged fraud involving promises of jobs abroad, has been granted bail by a Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.

₹4 lakh, ₹6 lakh alleged fraud

Parvathy Maya was arrested in connection with complaints that she collected ₹4 lakh from a youth from Erumapetty in Thrissur after promising him a job in Armenia with a monthly salary of ₹1.5 lakh. In another case, she allegedly collected ₹6 lakh from a resident of Kunnathunad by promising a job in Poland.

Around 25 complaints have so far been received by the Palarivattom police. Police have also received information that money running into crores of rupees may have been collected from around 300 people by promising overseas jobs.

Police are examining receipts and other documents submitted by complainants as part of the investigation.

Police are also investigating allegations that a substantial portion of the money collected was transferred abroad. However, the police face limitations in tracing the movement of funds overseas.

The investigation may therefore be handed over to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), with the police expected to submit a detailed report to the agency.

Husband, managers also accused

Apart from Parvathy Maya, her husband Aneesh Menon and managers Abhijith, Aju K. Mathew, Vishnu Vijayan and Shaji are also accused in the case. Police suspect that the other accused have left the country.

Meanwhile, there have been allegations of attempts to persuade complainants to withdraw their complaints by offering to return their money.

During the bail hearing, the accused had also informed the court that she was willing to repay the money.

Firms allegedly had no recruitment Licence

The case relates to allegations that Amster Overseas and Amster Immigration Overseas collected money from job seekers by promising overseas employment.

Police had earlier said that the establishments did not have licences to conduct foreign recruitment. They had also said that the alleged recruitment operation was promoted through social media.
