Kannur: Within two months of the infamous Elathur train arson attack case, a parked train was set ablaze in Kannur railway station in the wee hours on Thursday. The incident came to notice around 1.25 am. Fire broke out in a general coach of Kannur-Alappuzha Executive Express (16306).
After being informed by the station master and officials on duty, the fire brigade reached the spot and doused the fire around 2.20 am. As the other coaches were separated immediately, the fire did not spread to other parts of the train. The express was scheduled to depart at 5.10 am.
As per reports, one bogie of the express has been completely gutted in the fire. The railway police have expressed suspicion over the incident.

Meanwhile, CCTV footage of the train, ahead of the incident, shows an unidentified person entering the express. Following this, fire broke out inside the train. The visuals were captured in the surveillance camera of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
On April 2, in a similar incident, a youth had poured petrol on fellow passengers and set them on fire on board the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train (16307). In October 2014, a woman was killed after a man poured petrol and set her ablaze in the Kannur-Alappuzha Executive Express.
