Kannur: Pransonjith Sikhdar, a native of West Bengal, who was arrested in connection with the train fire incident in Kannur, has been sent to police custody for eight days. 

As per the latest reports, Sikhdar will be taken for evidence collection soon. The test identification parade of the accused was completed on Wednesday. 

The general coach of Kannur-Alappuzha Executive Express (16306) was set on fire on June 1 around 1.25 am. One coach of the train was completely gutted in the fire. 

Following this, Prasonjith Sikdhar, a native of North 24 Parganas district, was nabbed by the police in connection with the incident. Soon after the arrest, he was taken to Kannur district hospital for medical examination and remanded later.   

As per the statements given to the police, Prasonjith had arrived in Kannur railway station, a day before the incident. He was hungry and depressed, and apparently engaged in the destructive act to vent his frustration.
