Paravur 'food poisoning' incident: Head cook of Majlis restaurant arrested, owner in hiding

Paravur: The head cook of the Majlis restaurant in Ernakulam's Paravur has been arrested after several people were hospitalised after having food from there. Kasaragod’s Maipady native Hasainar (50) was later remanded by the court. Police FIR does not contain the name of the licensee. He has been in hiding since the incident.

As many as 70 people, who had food at the restaurant on Monday evening sought treatment for diarrhoea and vomiting, allegedly due to food poisoning.

Six persons were undergoing treatment at the Paravur Taluk hospital on Wednesday. Others got discharged. Three more people sought treatment at a private hospital in Paravur on Wednesday.

Only one small building of the restaurant has a licence. The licence is in the name of Mumammad Siyad Ul Haq. The restaurant was shut down following the incident.
