Kannur: There is no solution in sight for the recurring incidents of students fainting inside the overcrowded Parasuram Express. Despite so many cases being reported in the past weeks, neither have additional coaches been added nor has there been a decision regarding halting trains to make way for the Vande Bharat express. A schoolgirl collapsed in the overcrowded ladies coach of the Mangalore-Nagercoil Parasuram Express (16649) near Elathur on Monday morning.
Passengers gave some water to the girl before she was alighted from the train. Sheeba Babu, a passenger and an employee of the health department said that the crowd was suffocating. In the past four months, 18 female passengers have collapsed on the Parasuram express. In January and February alone, eight female students lost consciousness in this manner.
The railway authorities had informed the human rights commission that steps would be taken to reduce the congestion in Parasuram express. It was mentioned that additional coaches would be added. However, no measures have been taken so far.
