Palakkad:  A compensation of Rs 2.59 lakh was ordered to the owner of an electric scooter that malfunctioned within a week of purchase, by the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

As per the complaint filed by the owner, the scooter repeatedly displayed only the message "Your scooter is sleeping" on both the mobile app and the scooter's touchscreen, and eventually fails to start. The owner, C B Rajesh from Akathethara, Shanthinagar, approached the commission after facing these issues.

The commission determined that the scooter had a manufacturing defect and directed the company to refund the scooter’s cost of Rs 1.27 lakh, along with 10 percent interest. The company also must pay Rs 1 lakh as compensation and Rs 20,000 as legal costs.

The order, issued by Commission president V Vinay Menon and member N K Krishnankutty, directed the company to pay the amount within 45 days. If the payment is delayed, an additional Rs 500 per month will be charged until settlement.
