Thiruvananthapuram: Amid speculations, Congress leader and former chief minister K Karunakaran’s daughter Padmaja Venugopal’s husband has confirmed that she is all set to join the BJP. Dr Venugopal said that he has seen his wife suffering from neglect in the Congress party and hence decided to switch sides.

The confirmation was given while Dr Venugopal was speaking to Mathrubhumi News. “I always support whatever decision Padmaja makes. I will not comment on this on a political basis. She was upset over the delay in the construction of the K Karunakaran memorial. Many were opposed to this. There was no decision to change political affiliation earlier,” Venugopal said.

Venugopal said that he advises Padmaja to end politics and stay at home. But when a better opportunity came, he thought of it as a great chance and said he does not stand against his wife’s personal decisions. When asked whether Padmaja would be a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Venugopal responded that she will never contest elections.
