Thiruvananthapuram: In the case of five people being charred to death at Varkala on Tuesday early morning, IG R Nishanthini informed that nothing suspicious could be found in the primary probe.
The entire house has been engulfed by fire. All the rooms were found to be closed. More experts will probe the case as five people have succumbed to death. She also said that the gypsum works inside the house might have aggravated the spread of fire.
The Fire Force officials said that inhaling a lot of smoke might have caused the death. The Thiruvananthapuram District Collector also said that the fire force was able to reach the spot within minutes of the accident.
The deceased have been identified as Prathapan, (64), his wife Sherly,(53), younger son Akhil,(25), elder son’s wife Abhirami, (24) and eight-month-old grandchild Rayan. Meanwhile, the sole survivor, Nikhil, has been hospitalised and his condition is critical.
The incident happened around 2 am. The neighbours saw fire and smoke emanating from the house and immediately informed fire and rescue personnel. Two-wheelers on the front yard too caught fire. According to unconfirmed reeports, a short circuit is reported to be the reason for the fire.
Neighbour Shashankan was the first person who saw the incident. He alerted other neighbours.
