Dubai: Noted NRI businessman and film producer Atlas Ramachandran passed away on Sunday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dubai. He was 80.
He was admitted to the hospital after complaining about chest pain on Saturday. He was battling age-related ailments for some time and reportedly died of cardiac arrest.
MM Ramachandran, popularly known to Malayalees as Atlas Ramachandran, was the chairman of Atlas Jewellery and became a household name for delivering the tagline of his jewellery, "Janakodikalude Vishwastha Sthapanam."
He produced noted films like Vaisali (1988) and Sukrutham (1994) and was also a lead actor in Subhadram (2007). He also acted in movies like Arabikkatha, Malabar Wedding, 2 Harihar Nagar and several others.
He is survived by wife Indira Ramachandran and daughter Dr Manju Ramachandran. The last rites will be performed in Dubai on Monday evening.
