Kozhikode: K Prabhakaran, one of the popular artists under Indian Radical painting, passed away here on Monday. He was 70. He breathed his last around 8 on Monday night at Kozhikode medical college.
He was under treatment at the medical college. As a popular artist, he conducted many painting exhibitions in India and abroad. After learning painting from Baroda and Shantiniketan, Prabhakaran worked as an artist in various magazines for more than three decades.
He was an active member in the Radical Painters and Sculptures Association which founded in 1987. His paintings received global attention with the painting exhibition titled 'Aalekhya Darshan' held in Geneva along with seven popular Indian painters.
In 1995, artist Prabhakaran won senior fellowship constituted by the union ministry of human resources. He was honoured with the state award for the best artist in 2000. He conducted around 11 continuous exhibitions across the state.
Prabhakaran also served as an art therapist at Shanti Bhavan in Kozhikode.
He is survived by wife Kabita Mukhopadhyay from Bengal who is also a popular artist and four children Kishan, Kabir, Krishna and Niranjana.
His last rites will be performed at the crematorium in Mavoor road on Tuesday at 9.30 am.
