High Court rejects V M Vinu’s plea to add his name to the voters’ list, stating that celebrity status offers no special privilege.

Kochi: The High Court has dismissed the petition filed by director V M Vinu—who had been announced as the UDF’s mayoral candidate—seeking an order to include his name in the Kozhikode Corporation’s electoral roll.
Justice P V Kunhikrishnan rejected the petition, noting that someone whose name does not appear even in the draft voters’ list cannot be granted assistance simply because he is a celebrity, nor can any special consideration be given on that ground.
There had been several opportunities to include his name. All the relevant information had been published in newspapers. Even the court came to know about the details through such reports. The court asked whether the petitioner did not read newspapers. The court also stated that it intervened in the case only because the name appeared in the state’s list.
