New Delhi: CPM state secretary MV Govindan on Saturday refuted the narrative that the case against KPCC chief K Sudhakaran is politically motivated.

According to Govindan, there is no political colour in the case against Sudhakaran. “As far as CPM is concerned, those wronged should come before the law. Sudhakaran is not booked over any political case. As we all know, it pertains to a grievous crime,” he said.

He was interacting with the media here and even responded to a query about whether CPM demands Sudhakaran’s resignation as KPCC chief.

Govindan said CPM has not raised any demand like that. “That is Congress’ discretion. Congress by virtue should decide how people would perceive the position (KPCC Chief). We have no issues,” he noted.

Govindan also alleged that Congress has been propagating the narrative that it is a politically motivated case. “However, people in Kerala will not fall for it,” he said.

Earlier today, Congress termed the case against Sudhakaran as fake and attacked the state government over the matter. Opposition leader VD Satheesan reiterated that the Left government was "ruled by fear" and was therefore trying to silence the opposition by such tactics. “The government has been accepting framed complaints to witch hunt opposition leaders,” he alleged.
