Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan stated that no time limit has been set for the chief minister and the opposition leader during discussion on no-confidence motion in the assembly. He was responding to the opposition's allegation that the Speaker allotted more time to the chief minister.

The opposition leader said in the morning that no time limit should be fixed for the chief minister and the opposition leader. As part of this, everyone took more time. Even the opposition leader spoke three times more than the allotted time, the Speaker said.

"When members take too much time, I usually ask how long they want to continue speaking. I said in the assembly in the morning that all should follow time limit and also COVID protocol. But the opposition leader expressed disagreement with this and everyone including him took more time than allotted," the Speaker stated.

A no-confidence motion has been moved against the government. So, the chief minister will have to explain the concerned issues to the assembly and the society for gaining confidence. During the no-confidence motion moved in 2005, the discussion was held for two days and the reply to the motion took 5 hours 15 minutes, the Speaker added.
