Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George said that 175 people, including 74 health workers, have been identified as the contacts in Malappuram district in connection with Nipah disease. 

Out of the total, 126 people are in the primary contact list and 49 people are in the secondary contact list, the minister informed in a press release. 

 As many as 104 people in the primary list are in the high risk category. Meanwhile, 10 people in the contact list are undergoing treatment at Manjeri Medical College Hospital. 

At present, the saliva of 13 people has been sent for testing. The minister informed that the result is yet to be available.

A Nipah review meeting was held online on Monday morning and evening under the leadership of the minister. Following the Nipah alert, the Malappuram government has started the control cell at the guest house compound. Nipah Control Cell can be contacted on 0483 2732010 and 0483 2732060.

A route map containing the travel details and timings of the deceased 24-year-old has been published. After checking this route map, those who are likely to be included in the contact list should inform the control cell.

A field survey has been started in 66 teams within three kilometers of the deceased person's house. As part of this, a total of 1,928 houses, including 590 houses, in Mampad grama panchayat, 447 houses in Wandoor and 891 houses in Thiruvalli were surveyed on Monday. 

A total of 10 cases of fever in Mampad grama panchayat, 10 in Wandoor and 29 in Thiruvalli have been reported in the survey. Out of this, only one case of fever detected in Mambad is included in the contact list.

Educational institutions, including tuition centers and Anganwadis, have been instructed not to operate in the areas declared as containment zones. The police were instructed in the meeting to ensure compliance of regulations in the containment zone.
