Malappuram: Nipah virus has been confirmed once again in the state. The infection has been identified in a 42-year-old woman from Valanchery. She is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Perinthalmanna. The woman had been under treatment for the past four days with symptoms including fever.
The disease was confirmed following tests conducted at the Kozhikode Microbiology Lab and the Pune NIV Lab after Nipah-like symptoms were observed. This is the third time that Nipah has been confirmed in Malappuram. The source of her infection remains unclear.
The woman has a high fever, cough, and breathing difficulties and is in an extremely critical state. Two more people at her residence are showing symptoms of illness.
They have not consumed any fruits recently nor had contact with bats. The hospital was informed that their hens died a few days ago.
