Thiruvananthapuram: The ruling and opposition parties engaged in a fight at Neyyattinkara municipal council here. Following the conflict, the chairperson and the opposition leader fell unconscious and both were admitted into the general hospital.
The dramatic events took place during the council meeting after the opposition members protested demanding resignation of chairperson WR Heeba who face vigilance probe. The incident took place on Friday at 11 in the morning.
During the arguments and conflict, both the chairperson Heeba and opposition leader Lalitha Teacher fell unconscious on the floor and were rushed to general hospital.
The Congress workers conducted a protest march and burned the effigy of the chairperson in front of the municipality office gate. When the police tried to move them away, it resulted in minor clashes.
