The results underline a strong resurgence for the UDF, which has capitalised on widespread anti-incumbency sentiment against the LDF government.

Kochi: The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has emerged as the clear frontrunner in Kerala’s municipal segment as counting continues in the Local Body Elections 2025, registering a decisive performance across the state and consolidating its position ahead of next year’s Assembly polls.
According to the latest available trends, the UDF is leading in 54 municipalities, comfortably outpacing its rivals. The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) is ahead in 28 municipalities, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is ahead in two municipalities – Palakkad and Tripunithura. One municipality remains hung, with no front securing a clear majority so far.
The results underline a strong resurgence for the UDF, which has capitalised on widespread anti-incumbency sentiment against the LDF government. Several municipalities that were earlier under Left control have swung decisively in favour of the Congress-led alliance, signaling voter dissatisfaction at the grassroots level.
UDF stands tall in Ernakulam
Kochi: The results of the municipal elections in Ernakulam district have delivered a severe setback to the Left Democratic Front (LDF), which failed to secure victory in even a single municipality.
Out of the district’s 13 municipalities, the United Democratic Front (UDF) has ensured control in 12, continuing its overwhelming dominance in the region. The lone exception is Tripunithura, where the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) wrested power from the LDF through a narrow and dramatic victory.
The UDF registered victories in Muvattupuzha, Aluva, Angamaly, Eloor, Kalamassery, Kothamangalam, North Paravur, Perumbavoor, Piravom, Thrikkakara, Maradu, and Koothattukulam.
