Thiruvananthapuram: The mystery surrounding the death of young director Nayana Surya continues as the latest developments in the case have placed state police in a tough spot. Nayana's friend had revealed that a week before her death, she had suffered injuries on her face from a physical assault and also received threatening calls.

Her friend revealed that Nayana was hesitant initially to discuss about the bruises on her face. She later revealed that she was beaten by someone at her residence. Meanwhile, it is learned that the attack was over some financial dealings or property.

Prior to her death, Nayana and others in the film industry, had organised money for the treatment of director Lenin Rajendran. Following the death of Lenin Rajendran, many people approached Nayana over the money and constantly quarrelled with her. She even disclosed her last wishes to friends, including wearing nose rings when her body is placed for public homage. Following her death, the police barred her friends from taking the nose ring from her residence. However, her brother permitted them to collect her nose ring and other jewellery for use as per her last wishes.

Meanwhile, it was alleged that police tried to close the case without examining her phone records. Further, her mobile phone was handed back to the family after removing messages. Her laptop was also nearly destroyed.

Nayana Surya was found dead in her rented house at Althara Nagar in Thiruvananthapuram on February 24, 2019. She was working as an assistant director to director Lenin Rajendran.
