Thiruvananthapuram: Local Self-Government Minister MV Govindan has informed the Kerala Assembly that revising tax structure and hiking fees are inevitable for the financial sustenance of local bodies.

The statement hinting tax structure revision and fee hike soon was made during the discussion of Common Service Bill, 2022. The Assembly passed the bill too.

The minister in the Assembly also discussed important matters such as corruption and waste management. He assured that bribery will not be tolerated.

“Though waste is an issue, many oppose waste plants. The funds for projects including AMRUT remain idle. Under Kannur Corporation, even CPM opposed the waste plant. However, they were taken to Medical College hospital to brief them about its functioning. Now the construction of the plant is happening,” he said.

Opposition leaders including Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said they are ready to cooperate with the ruling faction over the matter.
