New Delhi: Tamil Nadu has come up against Kerala in the Supreme Court over the Mullaperiyar issue. In an affidavit submitted in the top court, Tamil Nadu alleged that Kerala is obstructing moves to strengthen the baby dam. They also demanded that the water level in Mullaperiyar dam should be increased to 142 feet.
Tamil Nadu government submitted the affidavit on Friday night when the apex court was about to consider the Mullaperiyar case on Saturday. This was a counter-affidavit to the affidavit submitted by Kerala the other day.
Tamil Nadu claimed in the affidavit that Mullaperiyar dam is safe at present and Kerala’s allegations are not true. They also pointed out that the supreme court had earlier stated that the water level can be raised to 152 feet when the baby dam is strengthened.
Tamil Nadu stated in the affidavit that Kerala does not allow cutting the trees near the baby dam. Also, they demanded that the top court should accept the rule curve recognized by the Central Water Commission (CWC).
