Thrissur: Thousands of patients are waiting for donors after registering on the Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (Mrithasanjeevani) website.

As many as 3,115 individuals have registered on the site. Some of them were registered way back in 2014.

996 people have so far benefited from the project that was started in 2012.

Mrithasanjeevani only handles organ donation of deceased persons. They are transparent as well. Among living donors, however, middlemen dominate the donation process. This often leads to bribery. Many have been cheated by paying lakhs of rupees to agents.

In order to address this issue, the state government created a State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTO) in 2021. However, the organisation is not proactive.
