Enjoy diverse cuisines at the new Kozhikode Beach Food Street, opening soon! 90+ food carts, strict quality assurance, and a beautiful beachside location await.

Kozhikode: The much-awaited Beach Food Street in Kozhikode is nearly ready, with the majority of specially designed food carts already arriving at the site. Residents will have to wait just two more weeks before the food street officially opens, according to city corporation officials.
The food carts will be assigned to eligible vendors on Friday through a lot system. The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation plans to inaugurate the food street by September 30.
The project is being implemented jointly by the Food Safety Department, the National Health Mission (NHM), and the Kozhikode Corporation. The food street will feature a variety of North and South Indian cuisines, with authorities promising strict quality assurance.
Spread across a 240-metre stretch of Kozhikode beach, the food street is being constructed on a dedicated platform where the vending carts are being arranged. In total, the beach can accommodate 90 carts, and over 60 have already been set up.
Each custom-designed movable cart costs approximately ₹3 lakh, designed by De Earth and manufactured by Metal Industries Limited, a public sector undertaking.
Infrastructure work is progressing quickly. A transformer has already been installed, and underground cable laying is the next step.
The entire project involves a cost of ₹4.06 crore, with funding sourced from multiple agencies. Of this, ₹2.41 crore is being provided under the National Urban Livelihoods Mission, ₹1 crore comes from the Food Safety Department, and the remaining amount is funded by the Kozhikode Corporation.
