The Motor Vehicles Department has found that several ambulances providing service in the state are illegally modified. The department has also noticed the misuse of such modifications. The department is moving forward with the ‘Operation Rescue’ scheme to find those who engage in such illegal activities.
These illegal practices had come to notice before the time of Onam. It was decided that a detailed inspection will be initiated after Onam. The illegally modified ambulances have not been given permits so far.
It has also been noticed that some of them are misusing the ambulances instead of carrying patients. According to the order by the Transport Commissioner, the officers of the Motor Vehicle Department started inspection on Wednesday.
The officers have been given strict instructions not to stop or hinder the movements of the ambulances that are carrying patients. The inspection must be done in areas around the hospitals’ neighbourhood. The instructions also state that the parked vehicles must be inspected.
