Kochi/Thiruvananthapuram: As uncertainty over Kerala’s new Chief Minister entered the 10th day, protests are intensifying among Congress workers. A group of Congress activists blocked MP Benny Behanan demanding that VD Satheesan be made Chief Minister.

The incident took place at Mudikkal in Perumbavoor, where Benny Behanan had arrived to attend a function. Youth Congress workers stopped the MP and demanded that he clarify his stand on supporting VD Satheesan. They warned that if the final decision goes against Satheesan, larger protests would erupt across the state.

The delay of nearly 10 days in announcing the Chief Minister has reportedly become a matter of ridicule among voters and party workers alike. Reports say Congress supporters are sharing social media posts saying, “leadership, we are walking with our heads bowed.”

Workers also reminded the MP about the recent incident in Kottayam where a man allegedly attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol on himself while demanding that VD Satheesan be made Chief Minister. He was reportedly persuaded to back off only after police assured him that Satheesan would eventually become Chief Minister.

The VD Satheesan camp remains confident that public sentiment is in their favour. They claim to have the support of the Muslim League and 63 MLAs. Satheesan, who is currently staying at his residence in Aluva, is expected to return soon to his constituency, Paravur. He is likely to remain there when the Chief Ministerial announcement is made.

Meanwhile, high command discussions on selecting the Chief Minister continue to remain complicated. Party workers are hoping for a decisive announcement today.
