Kochi: The Crime Branch unit of Kerala Police is planning to move High Court seeking to cancel the anticipatory bail of Inspector General G. Lakshman, third accused in the financial fraud case involving self-styled antique dealer Monson Mavunkal.

The Crime Branch is about to approach the High Court demanding the cancellation of his anticipatory bail for not cooperating with the investigation. Despite issuing two notices, the senior official failed to appear for questioning in the case.

A few days back, citing medical reasons, G. Lakshman informed the Crime Branch officials that he would not appear for questioning on Friday.

As a result, the crime branch has decided to inform the court about the progress of the investigation. Earlier, High Court granted anticipatory bail in the case.

Besides G. Lakshman and Monson Mavunkal, KPCC president K Sudhakaran, former DIG S. Surendran and Youth Congress leader Ebin Abraham are the other accused in the fake antiquities fraud case. Lakshman faces charges for offences punishable under sections 468 (forgery) and 420 (cheating) among other provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
