Kozhikode: Amid row over suicide of Mofiya Parveen, the law student who ended life reportedly due to dowry harassment and police apathy in her complaint, Kerala Women's Commission Chief P Sathidevi remarked that women should feel free to approach police stations. “We have requested the Home Minister to convert all police stations to Janamaithri police stations,” she said.
Commenting on Mofiya case, Sathidevi said that many complaints have emerged against the cop who has been alleged in the case. “At present, women commission has not registered any case over the matter. We are examining the matter,” she said.
According to Sathidevi, we all are living in a society where misogynistic environment exists and even police force is not free from it. The commission has forwarded a suggestion that police should be given training on gender justice, she added.
Edayappuram native Mofiya Parveen had committed suicide on Monday at her residence. She was daughter of K Dilshad and Farisa. The suicide note accusing husband, his family and Aluva CI CL Sudheer was obtained from the spot. Mofiya’s family has alleged that CI Sudheer had insulted Mofiya when she went to the police station to lodge a complaint.
